Darkwing Duck Reboot Is Coming To Disney+
Darkwing Duck! Let’s get dangerous! That’s right a “Darkwing Duck” reboot is officially heading to Disney+ according to a piece that appeared in Variety today.
It is early days for the project but it already has a big name attached to it with the news that Seth Rogen will serve as executive producer. He will be joined by Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures.
Children of the 90s will remember that “Darkwing Duck” originally aired on ABC and The Disney Channel from 1991 – 1992. It was created by Tad Stones and there were 91 episodes. The series centered around the title character – a duck superhero. By day he lived an ordinary suburban life as Drake Mallard but under the cover of darkness he fought crime with a bit of assistance from his sidekick Launchpad McQuack.
The original show featured legendary Disney voice actor Jim Cummings as the title character. He was joined by Christine Cavanaugh as Gosalyn, Darkwings adopted daughter and Terry McGovern as launchpad!
This show ties in nicely with Disney’s popular reboot of “DuckTales” as there is some overlap. Launchpad appears in both shows. As Variety tells us, most recently Darkwing and Gosalyn appeared in one of the rebooted DuckTales episodes as an old fictional character from a superhero TV series. Mallard, the President of the Darkwing Duck fan club makes an appearance in Season 2 and Gosalyn is introduced in the third season.
This is one of several reboots that Disney+ has been keen to add to its streaming network. Updates of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was on of the first series aired on the network and was based on the High School Musical films. Disney has also announced plans for a Doogie Howser MD reboot as well as a series based on the George Lucas film Willow.
