Disney Stock Soars After Promising News From COVID-19 Vaccine Trials

Is this the light at the end of the tunnel we have all been waiting for? It might be too early to know for sure but we received some promising news this morning from the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine trails. This news has caused stocks to soar including Disney stock.

This morning, Pfizer announced that their COVID-19 vaccine is proven to be over 90% effective in preventing trial participants from contacting the virus. This is huge news considering that scientists were hoping for the vaccine to be at a minimum 60 to 70% effective.

So, what does this mean for Disney and Disney stocks? A lot! With the hope of a promising COVID-109 vaccine, many people will be more inclined to begin traveling once again. In addition, this might help expedite the opening of Disneyland which still remains closed after the Parks shut down back in March. Disneyland Paris has also had to re-close since reopening and many are hopeful it might open sooner with a vaccine.

Not only are theme parks impacted by the hope of an effective COVID-19 vaccine. Stocks for movie theater chains including AMC Entertainment and Cinemark have also drastically increased in early morning trading.

As a whole, Variety is reporting that the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1,609 points or 5.7% which made it grow above pre-COVID levels and new record new highs. The S&P was up 3.8% and the Nasdaq was up 1.25%. Disney stock was up a whopping 14% when the positive COVID-19 vaccine trial news was first announced early this morning.

While this news is extra-promising in the world’s fight against COVID-19, it’s still going to be some time before a vaccine is widely available. However, select individuals may begin to start receiving the vaccine by the end of the year. It should be more widely available as we get into 2021.
