Star Wars Kids: Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine
Galaxy of Adventures Heads to Tatooine via Star Wars Kids
This morning, The Mandalorian headed to Tatooine (again), but even before The Mandalorian traveled the dune sea, Obi-Wan Kenobi was there.
Star Wars Kids — Galaxy of Adventures — beat Disney+ to the punch.
The official Star Wars Kids YouTube account explained the premise of the season:
Galaxy of Adventures is a series of animated shorts celebrating the characters and stories of a galaxy far, far away, featuring a bright and colorful art style, exciting action, and insight into the saga’s greatest themes!
Obi-Wan Kenobi | Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a legendary Jedi Master, a hero of the Clone Wars who returned from exile to help the Rebel Alliance in its quest to defeat the Empire.
But the fun thing about this video is that it’s all internal. Standing outside his home, watching the sky, Obi-Wan meditates as the twin suns of Tatooine rise.
Looking into the past, he sees his mentor, his student, and “a new hope.”
In fact, the video is a wonderful mirror of the first Galaxy of Adventures short set on Tatooine, Luke Skywalker.
Luke Skywalker – The Journey Begins | Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures
Luke Skywalker embraces his destiny on Tatooine and sets out on a journey to become a Jedi.
As evidenced by the rhyming of the two videos above, Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures is a wonderful, thought out series of shorts.
Obi-Wan stares into the twin suns and realizes his journey is nearly over. Meanwhile, in Luke’s short, the would-be Jedi sees a way off of Tatooine and into a full galaxy of adventures.
The two videos, although mirrors, really tie the journey of the master and student together.
As George Lucas said, “You see the echo of where it’s all going to go. It’s like poetry, they rhyme.”
