Can You Solve The Dread Family Murder Mystery at Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion?
I’m about to share with you one of my favorite things in ALL of Walt Disney. And no, it isn’t a parade, fireworks display or attraction. One of the things that has made the Haunted Mansion consistently my favorite attraction over the years are all of the fantastic touches that add an extra element of fun to your visit to this spooktacular haunted house.
If you’ve ever waiting in line for the Haunted Mansion, chances are you’ve seen The Dread Family! These are the busts you encounter to the right as soon as you enter the Haunted Mansion property. Though at first sight, this family might simply look like “decoration” if you look closely you’ll actually find a Murder Mystery waiting to be solved!
Each of the statues has its very own epitaph underneath. This Murder Mystery starts with Uncle Jacob (the guy with the monocle in the middle.) If you read the engraving below his bust you’ll notice that he was poisoned by a member of his own family!? Each of the epitaphs gets you closer and closer to “Who done it!?”

So if you’ve yet to solve the Dread Family Murder Mystery definitely make it a must-do during your next Disney getaway! And though I won’t give the mystery away. I will give you one clue! One of the great things about the busts is that they are 3 dimensional. This means all of the important details may not be in the front!
