Is Star Wars Hotel Still Happening?
Okay, by now, you’ve heard all about the changes happening behind the scenes at Walt Disney World.
The pandemic has forced Disney executives to alter many upcoming plans.
I know that one of these projects matters a great deal to a lot of you. So, you’re probably wondering.
What’s the deal with Star Wars Hotel? Well, here’s the latest as I know it…
About Star Wars Hotel
First of all, the upcoming hotel has a name, and it’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. That title signifies the theme of the property as well.
When you check in, Disney immerses you in a new kind of guest experience.
You’re not a customer standing in a hotel lobby. You’re a tourist boarding an intergalactic starship.
You will live on the ship during your journey, i.e., your Disney vacation.
The theming throughout the hotel Starcruiser will reinforce the notion that you’re riding on the outer space equivalent of the Titanic, albeit hopefully with better results.
When you stay at this resort, you enter the world of Star Wars, the one that exists each day at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
You’re no longer a vacationer or even a tourist. You’re someone starting your own Star Wars story, and everything at the hotel will prove this.
Your room will look more like a ship’s quarters, albeit a deluxe-sized one. Your redshirts younglings will sleep in cubbyholes that look a lot like bunk beds.
Best of all, your “view” won’t display anything from Walt Disney World, not even the adjoining Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.
Instead, you’ll gaze out your window and see planets, asteroids, suns, and other starships.
Disney has even indicated that the view will change based on the moment of your trip, meaning that you’ll change solar systems.
More important, you’ll know that you’ve switched by the digital wall display.
When Disney announced its Star Wars hotel project, it emphasized that immersion will differentiate this place from anything that’s come before it.
You’ll get to live out all your Star Wars fantasies here.
Reasons You’ll Love Star Wars Hotel
See above re: fantasies.
Seriously, though, you’ll discover plenty of reasons why you’ll want to stay at this hotel.
The cruise theming covers everything, including the style of your trip. You’ll spend three days and two nights about Galactic Starcruiser.
You’ll “board” your vessel, just like you would a Disney Cruise Line ship. The Imagineering tricks will make the lobby feel like a cruise terminal.

You’ll take a launch pod to reach your destination, the gigantic starship that will carry you around the universe.
When you board your ship, the Halcyon, you’ll begin your own Star Wars adventure.
The cast members you meet on the ship will still treat you like a guest, but you’ll experience a different dynamic here. Each cast member doubles as a character!
Yes, you’re part of a collaborative role-playing game wherein you choose your own adventure, only you’re living out the book!

The ship will host daily activities include holodeck lightsaber training! Also, you’ll have the option to participate in both onboard and off-ship activities.
Disney will transport guests in and out of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, using vehicles that will maintain the illusion that you’re in a science-fiction epic.
On Batuu, you’ll develop a reputation as a noble Jedi warrior or an insidious Sith overlord.
Internet reports from trusted publications suggest that Disney will track your score to know how you use The Force.
While you’re a guest on the Halcyon, you’ll encounter several challenges/missions wherein you face off against members of the First Order.
How you act with them will determine later activities. So, you can be “in character” as much as you like during your trip.
You’re creating your own Star Wars story. Who wouldn’t want to do that?
When Will Star Wars Hotel Open?
Initial plans called for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to open in 2021, with bookings beginning in 2020.
You’ve likely heard that Disney has reduced hundreds of millions of dollars from its theme park budget due to Coronavirus.
While it’s true that the pandemic devastated many businesses, including Disney, the company remains committed to Star Wars Hotel.
In fact, insiders suggest that this project qualifies as one of the few whose target opening date hasn’t changed much.
Park strategists understand how much customers like you desperately want to visit a hotel in a galaxy far, far away.
So, they can easily justify the investment to complete Galactic Starcruiser. This project should pay for itself, probably quickly.
As such, Star Wars Hotel remains on track for a debut in 2021. Of course, something else hasn’t changed.
The project will host only a few hundred rooms, making it one of the smallest properties at Walt Disney World.
Disney is selling exclusivity here, and the premise would collapse with thousands of guests boarding the Starcruiser at once.
Yes, an intergalactic vessel should be massive, but Disney couldn’t provide the personal touches with that many guests.
And that’s why you will adore Star Wars Hotel. It’s incredibly personalized in nature.
Star Wars Status
Disney will play up this exclusivity with the pricing, as early reports suggested that a three-day trip could cost $3,000 or more.
For its part, Disney has yet to confirm pricing. We’re also down to two months remaining in 2020. So, it appears that the rooms won’t book this year.
Obviously, anything could change at a moment’s notice.
Disney could certainly use thousands of high-paying hotel room bookings right now. Literally everyone in the tourism industry could.
However, to the company’s credit, it’s not rushing plans just to grab some quick cash. On the contrary, the development strategy has remained methodical.
