A New Star Wars Movie Will Shoot In Scotland
Okay, Scotland. But we don’t know the name/plot/setting of the Star Wars movie….
Okay, so here’s neat little thing we know: The location of where a new Star Wars movie will be filmed.
However, we know little else (besides, maybe, the director – Taika Waititi).
The Daily Record — out of Glasgow, Scotland — posted:
Filming for the new Star Wars movie is to take place in the Highlands.
Star Wars Comes To Scotland
Apparently, a crew will be flying to Scotland and work will begin later this year.
“It’s great that Star Wars have decided to use Scotland’s breathtaking scenery for some of their first production shots,” told a source to the DailyRecord.co.uk. “The film is still a few years away thanks to the Covid crisis but it will be very exciting for fans to hear that the ball has started rolling on this highly anticipated movie.
“Filming will take place in the Highlands and will focus on the hills and surrounding areas,” added the source, as quoted by writer Jennifer Hyland. “It will likely be a small crew and an assistant director heading to Scotland to film over three days.
“Star Wars is the latest in a long list of films to showcase Scotland and everything this beautiful country has to offer.”
Add Scotland To Famous Star Wars Locations
The article correctly noted that Disney/Lucasfilm/Star Wars pushed back their filming schedule and the next set of movies will hit screens in 2023, 2025, and 2027.
Certainly, anytime a Star Wars film is shot on location, that location becomes instantly famous.
Skellig Michael in Ireland became widely known after The Last Jedi filmed there. As did Dubrovnik, Croatia.
So, a Highland Council spokesperson told the Daily Record:
The council’s film office welcomes a range of productions to Highland, who in turn bring significant economic benefits to the area as they use local facilities and services.
It is particularly welcome to see an increase in interest in Highland at the moment as many productions are unable to film overseas and are looking for different and high-quality locations in the UK.
Disney Has Been Here Before
The newspaper reminded readers that Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War saw some scenes filmed in Edinburgh. As did Avengers: Endgame (where it stood in for New Asgard).
