Star Wars: Obi-Wan Begins Filming, Early 2021
Obi-Wan (and Ewan McGregor) back in front of Lucasfilm’s cameras in March of next year….
My goodness. Good news? In 2020? But, of course, it’s about 2021. But hey, we’ll take it where we can, no?
Happily, Looper’s Rober Balcovich posted:
Is The Mandalorian not enough to satisfy your Star Wars needs? Well, incredible news, as a long-gestating new Star Wars series looks like it’s finally getting ready to start production. On October 9, Ewan McGregor appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where he was asked about the hotly anticipated stand-alone show focused on Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Not only did McGregor confirm that the show is still moving forward, but he also had some incredible news for fans: the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series is planning to begin filming in March 2021. Even better, we get to watch the interview ourselves:
Ewan McGregor might be back as Obi-Wan Kenobi?!? | The Graham Norton Show – BBC
Ewan McGregor talks about playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again now that he’s almost the same age as Alec Guinness was when he played him originally.
“It’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi story, I suppose,” reiterated McGregor to UK talk show host Graham Norton, who asked,”So it’s all you?”
“Well, it’s not all me,” said Ewan, sheepishly, sitting on the fool in front of a webcam. “Certainly, it will be a lot of me.
“Which is a good thing, probably.”

But the moment everyone was looking for came next.
“We start shooting it in March, next year,” said McGregor.
Asked what it would be like to play Obi-Wan Kenobi as he gets closer to the same age as Sir. Alec Guinness was when he established the character, Ewan was thoughtful.

“The fun thing about [playing Obi-Wan] in the first place when I was much younger was trying to imagine Alec Guinness, [and] how would he play these scenes as a younger guy,” explained Ewan. “And it led me to watch a lot of his early work, which I hadn’t seen before.
“Brilliant movies; wonderful films that he’d been in.
“I had such a wonderful time studying him in those movies,” he added. “So this time, I’m much closer in age to him and it will be my challenge to sort’ve ‘meet him’ somewhere.

“I love Alec Guinness. I never got to meet him but I love him through his work.”
The same could be said of Ewan McGregor, of course!
Until March, May the Force be with you, always….
