More Casting Details For Disney’s Live-Action Little Mermaid!
We’ve got some casting news for Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. According to a recent piece in DisInsider, Emily Coates has reportedly joined the cast.
Coates is best known for her role as Sister in the recent Netflix series Cursed.
As DisInsider tells us, there is no news yet as to what role Coates will be playing. However, there is speculation that it may be Ursula’s human form otherwise known as Vanessa. According to reports Kacey Musgraves was originally singled out for the role of Vanessa but she no longer seems to be an option.
It would make sense to have Coats in the role of Vanessa as she’s closer in age to Halle Bailey (who will be playing the role of Ariel) and Jonah Hauer-King who is line up to play Prince Eric in the film. Other noteworthy cast members that we’ve previously reported on here at MickeyBlog includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Trinto, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian.
The film is expected to resume production later this year at Pinewood Studios in London. The production was originally slated to start production in Spring of 2020 which had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) and will feature songs from the original film as well as some new additions. Legendary Disney composer Alan Menken is collaborating with Lin-Manuel Miranda on the songs. According to DisInsider these news songs will reportedly include songs for King Triton, Scuttle and Prince Eric as well as NEW duet between Ariel and Eric.
