Chadwick Boseman’s Brothers Speak To NYT About Actor’s Final Days
Kevin and Derrick Boseman, brothers to late actor Chadwick Boseman, appeared in a recent interview with the New York TImes where they opened up about the Black Panther stars final days and to discuss his incredible legacy.
In the interview, the brothers said that while fans knew the actor by many names (including T’Challa and Jack Robinson) they only know him as Chad.
Kevin Boseman (above) who is an accomplished dancer whose credits include a stint on Broadway in The Lion King explained to NYT that anything Chadwick Boseman put his mind to he could accomplish. Kevin said, “He always did his best,” adding, “His best was incredible.”
Chadwick’s other brother Derrick Boseman who is a pastor in Murfreesboro Tennessee added that his baby brother with incredibly talented saying, “He’s probably the most gifted person I’ve ever met.” Derrick adds that in addition to his talents as a storyteller and an actor his faith was at the core of who he was.
Chadwick’s mother was a nurse and his father reupholstered furniture. Both parents (Carolyn and Leroy) worked hard to provide their sons with a strong religious upbringing. His brothers told the New York Times that this is what motivated Chadwick to give back to the community but without broadcasting it. One such example was that he bought hundreds of tickets to Black Panther for children that couldn’t afford them in his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina.
This faith was also a great source of comfort to Boseman during the final stages of his illness. Pastor Boseman recalled that the day before he died Chadwick said, “Man, I’m in the fourth quarter, and I need you to get me out of the game.” At that time, the Pastor remembers that he shifted his prayers from “God heal him, God save him” to “God, let your will be done,” which allowed him to pass peacefully the following day.
Chad Boseman passed away on August 28, 2020 at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer which he kept largely hidden from the general public.
