Disney+ Has Found Its Ms Marvel!
We’ve got some exciting news for all you Marvel fans! It was just announced yesterday that newcomer Imon Vellani has been cast as Kamala Khan in the upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.
Imon is a relatively unknown actor but according to a piece in CBR.com, she was recently a part of the Next Wave Committee for the 2019 Toronto Film Festival helping to add important tags to films! Marvel Studios was really determined to find just the right actor to take on the role of Ms. Marvel even if that means going with a lesser-known lead.
There are also directors already attached to the project. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah who known for Bad Boys For Life. The series will also be helmed by Oscar Winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon. Menon most recently directed episodes of The Walking Dead, The Punisher and Outlander.
The series, which is coming to Disney’s streaming network next year follows a Pakistani-American teen Kamala Khan. Ms. Marvel made her comic book debut in 2012 becoming Marvel’s first Muslim character to star in her own title. When the show premieres on Disney+ Ms Marvel will also hold the distinction of being Marvel’s first onscreen Muslim hero.
Since making her Marvel debut back in 2012, the character of Ms. Marvel was a massive success. She would go on to lead a team of teenage heroes in the 2017 comic series The Champions.
According to Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, the Ms Marvel series is only the beginning for this awesome new superhero which may include a move to the big screen! The series is expect to make its Disney+ debut at an undisclosed date in 2021.
This is just one of of many Marvel projects that Disney has lined up which also includes WandaVision (which is slated to come out this year) as well as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, She-Hulk, and Loki.
