Tron: Legacy Soundtrack Gets The Mondo Treatment
I am very sorry to anyone who did not get to a theater to see Tron: Legacy back in 2010.
Seriously. Seeing that movie on the big screen was a must. The visual template created an amazing digital tapestry; a visage that was only overtaken by the soundtrack.
My goodness, the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. Composed by the legendary duo Daft Punk, it remains in my memory in a way that only John Williams’ scores for Star Wars and Indiana Jones match.
Today, Collider’s Drew Taylor posted a story, which will excite many, many like-minded fans:
Exclusive: Daft Punk’s ‘Tron Legacy’ Soundtrack Getting the Deluxe Vinyl Treatment From Mondo
Taylor posted:
Released 10 years ago this December, Disney’s Tron: Legacy still feels ahead of its time. Less mainstream action blockbuster and more elevated video art installation, it was a movie full of mood and atmosphere, precision cut for the most visual and emotional oomph. And a big reason why it works so well, why it has that elemental power, is Daft Punk’s incredible score.
EXACTLY.
Daft Punk pushed the envelope on the rock-opera concept, creating an EDM musical, which essentially went over the heads of much of its audience.
This is no shock, the original Tron, and its electronic soundtrack was relegated to legendary cult status.
In both eras, the general movie audience just had NO IDEA what they were seeing (or hearing).
French electronic musicians/robots Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter brought so much to the world of Tron Legacy, with an instantly classic score that combined traditional orchestration with the electronic sophistication that has made them a global phenomenon. (It was also key to their musical evolution; it’s hard to imagine them making the Grammy-winning masterpiece Random Access Memories without having first done the Tron score.) And now, just in time for the tenth anniversary, Mondo is teaming up with Walt Disney Records to release a new version of the score on vinyl.
I have the original soundtrack, as well as its sister, Tron: Legacy Reconfigured. Both remain very, very close to my heart.
While I am not a huge collector of vinyl, I might just have to pick up this release.
The set, which will cost $35 also includes some impressive artwork:
#FlynnLives, man. Flynn lives.
