James Cameron Confirms ‘Avatar 2’ Has Finished Filming
Its been a long and arduous journey but according to James Cameron, Avatar 2 has officially finished filming their live action sequences and said that they’re nearly finished for Avatar 3 as well.
The Oscar-winner shared the exciting news during a discussion with Arnold Schwarzenegger to spread the word about the 2020 Austrian World Summit environmental conference.

As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, filming for the hotly anticipated Avatar sequel was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak and has since had its official release date pushed back to December 2022. However, Cameron was quick to point out during the chat that this doesn’t give him and extra year to fine-tune the film as he has to launch into work for Avatar 3.
Cameron is still currently in New Zealand filming for Avatar 3. According to a recent piece in YahooMovies UK he told Schwarzenegger, “We’re shooting the remainder of the live action. We’ve got about ten percent left to go. We’re a hundred percent complete on Avatar 2 and we’re sort of ninety five percent complete on Avatar 3. So we’re very lucky in that we chose this as our production site years ago.”
In what seems like a perpetual movie cycle, as soon as Cameron finishes Avatar 3, then its straight onto Avatar 4, then 5 etc. This is to keep up with a fast-paced release schedule which as of going to print is as follows:

- Avatar 2: December 17, 2022
- Avatar 3: December 20, 2024
- Avatar 4: December 18, 2026
- Avatar 5: December 22, 2028
