Will I Be Able To Meet Santa Claus At Disney World This Year?
So the news is out! Disney World has officially released details on their scaled back Christmas celebrations for 2020 and it’s a time of BIG changes. In order to ensure guest safety and protect both visitors and cast members, Disney has made the decision to cut back on many of their usual holiday activities including Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom and the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT. Festival of the Holidays will also be pared down at EPCOT however, the holiday kitchens will still be a part of the Yuletide-themed activities.
In an amongst these changes, guests visiting with kids (or kids at heart) are probably wondering one very important question, “What about Santa?”
According to a statement released by Disney this afternoon, Santa will still be at the parks but WILL NOT be doing meet and greets at his usual locations (Main Street of Magic Kingdom, American Pavilion at EPCOT or his Chateau at Disney Springs.) Rather guests can catch sight of Jolly Old St. Nick via a variety of pop-up experiences that will take place across all four theme parks and Disney Springs.
Here’s what Disney’s official press release says:
Santa Claus will wave to guests as he makes pop-up appearances at each park, as well as Disney Springs. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, for example, he will sail down Discovery River on a special flotilla.
As sad as we here at MickeyBlog are that we won’t be able to cozy up next to Santa during our Christmas shopping spree at Disney Springs or share a moment with him and Mrs. Claus at EPCOT, we understand that meet-and-greets ARE NOT suitable during these times of social distancing. Besides, we think there’s something equally as magical about looking over a bridge at Animal Kingdom and seeing Santa floating by on a barge! These are exceptional times so let’s roll with it Disney friends!
