Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland Will Not Open Until 2023
Disney Imagineers took to Instagram today to announce that work has final started on Disneyland version of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway including the construction of the first still beam in Toontown where this indoor trackless ride will be located!
However, along with that good news was also some bad news for those hoping you’d see the attraction open anytime soon. Imagineers allo announced that Runaway Railway will not officially open at Disneyland theme park until 2023.

The first steel beam being installed for the future Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction @Disneyland, scheduled to open for guests in 2023! Disney Imagineers proudly joined Disneyland Resort President @KenPotrock outside the construction zone this morning as the beam was lifted into place. #RunawayRailway #Disneyland #MickeyMouse #MinnieMouse
The news doesn’t come as a surprise to Disney fans. With a 5+ month shutdown due to COVID-19, everyone has assumed that the construction was set back. But on the other hand, 2023 just seems so far away.
As the Orange Country Register reminds us, Runaway Railway will be the first theme park attraction dedicated to Mickey Mouse. Similar to the one that is currently open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it promises to take riders on a chaotic journey aboard a runaway train where you’ll encounter hurricanes, waterfalls and stampeding bulls!
Riders will board a four car train to meet Mickey, Minnie and Pluto for a picnic but in classic Disney fashion, things go “off the rails” quickly. The ride will take guests through a carnival, twister, waterfall, big city, factory and a stampede of bulls! The trackless train even splits apart and reconnects again along the way.
We here at MickeyBlog hope the construction runs safely and securely and can’t wait to stroll through Toontown to hop on board! If you’ve not been to Hollywood Studios all we can say is that the trackless ride system is truly spectacular and like nothing experienced before. Where else can you watch your train split apart with your view constantly changing position!? We promise, you’ll love it and some things are worth the wait!
