‘Black Panther’ and ABC Chadwick Boseman Tribute Top Sunday Ratings
For those of you that tuned into ABC yesterday evening, you’ll know that the network held a special screening of Black Panther along with a tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman who passed away over the weekend after a battle with colon cancer.
As the nation mourns the loss of Boseman, Variety tells us that viewers came out in force to celebrate Boseman’s life and Marvel role.
During the tribute on ABC fellow Avengers including Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Winston Duke, Mark Ruffalo and Paul Rudd were on hand to discuss Boseman’s legacy as well as Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Marvel Chief Kevin Feige, Disney’s Bob Iger and Robert Downey Jr. “He was having this immense success, in a strata of his own, humble hardworking, always smile on his face,” Downey said of Boseman. “‘Black Panther’ was hands down the crowning achievement of the marvel universe. The one where people got to vote with ticket sales we require this. It is a fantastic movie that leveled the playing field.”
According to the piece in Variety, 6.1 million viewers watched the Black Panther screening last night. delivering a Sunday night-high 1.4 rating for the Disney-owned network. The remembrance special “A Tribute For a King,” followed with a 1.1 rating and 4.7 million viewers, the second largest tally on the night.


Black Panther is included in the list of select titles returning to theaters.
