Check Out The Disney/Fox Films Coming Out From Now Through 2027
With the cinemas slowly reopening after 4+ months of closures due to COVID-19 most of us haven’t been keeping up on our movie release knews. Disney, with its recent acquisition of Fox as a HUGE decade ahead of them when it comes to cinema releases and surprisingly industry insiders already know quite a bit about the films slated to hit theaters over the next several years.
To get you up to speed we’ve compiled a list for you! First let’s start with some of the recent releases that have come out over the last few weeks.
Artemis Fowl
Disney’s “Artemis Fowl” was pushed to 2020 and is now on Disney Plus.
Release date: June 12 on Disney Plus
Original release date: May 29, 2020
The is film adaptation of the fantasy novels of the same name. The story follows a young boy and his bodyguard as they try to rescue his criminal dad. The cast includes Ferdia Shaw, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Nonso Anozie, and Hong Chau. The film was directed by Kenneth Branagh.
In May, Disney announced the film will be released this June on its streaming service.
The One And Only Ivan
Release date: August 21, 2020 on Disney Plus
Original release date: August 14, 2020
This adaptation of Katherine Applegate’s children’s story introduces us to Ivan, a gorilla who is stuck in a cage at a shopping mall. His friends include Stella (Angelina Jolie) the elephant and Bob the dog (Danny DeVito). Rounding out the cast are Bryan Cranston, Ariana Greenblatt, Indira Varma, Ramon Rodriguez, Brooklyn Prince, and Helen Mirren.
The film is currently available on Disney’s streaming service.
The New Mutants
New release date: August 28, 2020
Original release date: April 3, 2020
The first Disney/Fox film to hit theaters post-COVID-19 shutdown, this horror superhero movie is another installment in the “X-Men” series and centers on a group of young mutants being held in a secret facility. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga star.
The Personal History of David Copperfield
New US release date: limited release on August 28, 2020
Original release dates: May 8, 2020, August 14, 2020
Also out in theaters NOW, the film is based on the Victorian-era novel by Charles Dickens was released in the UK on January 24, 2020. It stars Dev Patel, Tilda Swinton, Peter Capaldi, and Hugh Laurie star in the comedy-drama.
Mulan
New release date: September 4, 2020 on Disney Plus for $29.99 in the US and theaters.
Original release date: March 27, 2020
Disney’s live-action “Mulan,” was originally scheduled for a March release but due to the COVID-19 shutdown will not be released on Disney+ for a $29.99 fee beginning on September 4th. The movie is an adaptation of the animated movie of the same name and follows a young woman who disguises herself as a man, takes her father’s place in war, and saves China. The cast includes Yifei Liu, Donnie Yen, Yoson An, Jet Li, and Jason Scott Lee.
Death On The Nile
New release date: October 23, 2020
Release date: October 9, 2020
This is the second film in Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie series which includes performances from Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright, Armie Hammer, Kenneth Branagh, and Tom Bateman.
Black Widow
New release date: November 6, 2020
Original release date: May 1, 2020
Finally, the long anticipated film centering around Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Black Widow’ will hit theaters in November. The film also stars David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz star in the film along. We also know that Taskmaster will be the villain in the film.
Deep Water
The film that started the real-life romance between Affleck and Ana de Armas, is based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith which follows a couple who have fallen out of love and start playing mind games with each other.
Soul
New release date: November 20, 2020
Original release date: June 19, 2020
The next Pixar film on the horizon, Disney says the film will “take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.”
Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter will direct the film. Jamie Foxx voices Joe Gardner who is a middle-school band teacher who has a passion for jazz music. Tina Fey will voice a “soul-in-training” who has an unexpected encounter with Gardner and has to help him get back to Earth. The film also boasts a musical score by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross along with original jazz music from Jon Batiste.
The Empty Man
New release date: December 4, 2020
Original release date: August 7, 2020
Based on the Graphic Novels, The film follows an ex-cop who tries to find a missing girl as he’s haunted by the death of his wife and son. The adaptation stars James Badge Dale (“13 Hours”), Samantha Logan, and Aaron Poole.
Nomadland
This film adapted from a non-fiction book follows Frances McDormand and David Strathairn, and is directed by Chloé Zhao. It’s follows Americans traveling the country searching for work.
Free Guy
New release date: December 11, 2020
Original release date: July 3, 2020
Reynolds plays a bank teller, named Guy, whose bank gets robbed multiple times daily. When Guy starts wondering what’s going on, he realizes he’s a non-playable character in a video game. Reynolds debuted the first footage for the film at New York Comic Con in October 2019 to a warm reception. Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar star.
West Side Story
Release date: December 18, 2020
A big screen remake of the musical, the film is directed by Steven Spielberg. The cast includes Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, Corey Stoll, Brian d’Arcy James, and Rita Moreno, who starred in the original movie.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie
New release date: January 22, 2021
Original release date: October 23, 2020
Another musical adaptation, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie tells the story of a 16-year-old teenager who becomes a drag queen. It will star Richard E. Grant, Max Harwood, and Sharon Horgan.
The Eternals
New release date: February 12, 2021
Original release date: November 6, 2020
The film is based around the group of immortal beings created by cosmic Gods. Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Stuber”), Lauren Ridloff (“The Walking Dead”), Brian Henry Tyree (“Atlanta”), Salma Hayek, Don Lee, and Angelina Jolie will star in the movie.
The Antlers
New release date: February 19, 2021
Original release date: April 20, 2020
The horror movie will follow a teacher and her brother who “become entwined with a young student” who has a dangerous secret. Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons star in the film.
The King’s Men
New release date: February 26, 2021
Original release dates: September 18, 2020, February 14, 2020
“The King’s Man” is the third film in the Kingsman franchise. According to Disney and Fox, the film will follow the origins of the independent intelligence agency. The film will center around a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds who gather to plot a war to wipe out million. One man must race against time to stop them.”
Raya and the Last Dragon
New release date: March 12, 2021
Original release date: November 25, 2020
Raya is a lone warrior from the kingdom of Kumandra. She goes on an expedition with a “crew of misfits” in search of the last dragon to bring unity back to the world. Awkwafina (“Crazy Rich Asians”) voices the Last Dragon in the film. The fantasy-action adventure will be directed by Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins (“Big Hero 6,” “Frozen”) and is inspired by the cultures of Southeast Asia.
Bob’s Burger
Release date: April 9, 2021
Originally slated for July 17, 2020 the project has been moved to next April.The film is based on the hit animated series of the same name!
Ron’s Gone Wrong
New release date: April 23, 2021
Original release date: November 6, 2020
The animated movie follows a boy whose robot friend doesn’t work right. Thomas Barbusca is the only person cast so far in the film. . It was originally scheduled for a November 6, 2020 but has since been moved twice to April 23, 2021
Shang-Chi
New release date: May 7, 2021
Original release date: February 12, 2021
Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the movie about the Master of Kung Fu. The character was introduced in the comics in 1973. Simu Liu will play the character and Awkwafina (“Ocean’s 8”) will also star. Tony Leung will play the Mandarin. A fake version of the character, played by Ben Kingsley, appeared in “Iron Man 3.”
Cruella
Release date: May 28, 2021
Emma Stone stars as the villain from animated classic “The 101 Dalmations.” According to Stone, the movie will have a 1970s punk-rock feel.
Luca
Release date: June 18, 2021.
Oscar nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) is directing the coming-of-age story about Luca who spends his summer on the Italian Riviera with his best friend who just so happens to be a sea monster! Casarosa said, “This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship.” He added, “Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in ‘Luca.'”
Peter and Wendy and Wendy?
Release date: July 9, 2021
Though no specific title has been given for the July 9th release, we do know that will be a live-action Disney flick. We also know that casting is already underway for Disney’s live-action adaptation of Peter and Wendy which suggests to us that this slot might be reserved for the film.
Jungle Cruise
New release date: July 30, 2021

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays a 1930s riverboat captain who goes on an exploratory mission into the jungle. Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehall, Paul Giamatti, Édgar Ramírez, and Jesse Plemons also star in this film based on the classic Adventureland attraction.
The Beatles: Get Back
New release date: August 27, 2021

Disney announced it acquired the distribution rights to Peter Jackson’s documentary in March 2020. According to a press release, the film will go behind-the-scenes of the making of the Beatle’s album “Let It Be” and their final live concert on London’s Savile Row. The film was made using more than 55 hours of unseen footage that was filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969 and 140 hours of “mostly unheard” audio recordings from the “Let It Be” album sessions.
The Last Duel
New release date: October 15, 2021
Ridley Scott is directing the 14th century epic about two knights whose bond is tested. It has quite the cast in Affleck, Damon, Adam Driver, and Jodie Comer.
Unnamed Animated Feature
Release date: November 24, 2021
Lin-Manuel Miranda and “Zootopia” co-director Byron Howard are reportedly working on a new Disney animated movie. Little has been revealed about the project but keep following along with us and we promise to keep you posted!

The Little Mermaid?

The live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” doesn’t have a release date, yet, but singer Halle Bailey was cast in the role in July 2019. The remake will include original songs and new ones from Alan Menken and “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Nimona
Release date: January 14, 2022
Based on the 2015 graphic novel the film centers on Nimona, a shapeshifter who also works as a sidekick to a supervillain. The film was pushed back from a March 2021 release.
Thor: Love and Thunder
New release date: February 11, 2022
Original release date: November 5, 2021
“Thor: Love and Thunder” will see the return of Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie (and the new king of Asgard). Natalie Portman will be back playing a female Thor. “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi is returning to direct.
Untitled Pixar Film
Release date: March 11, 2022
Domee Shi, who directed the Pixar short “Bao,” is reportedly working on a full-length film for the studio.
Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness
New release date: March 25, 2022

Sam Raimi directs this film which will see Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as Dr. Stephen Strange. The film will also star Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) and will tie into the WandaVision series on Disney+
Pinocchio
Release date: April 8, 2022

Live Action Tinker Bell?
Release date: May 27, 2022
In 2015, it was reported that Reese Witherspoon would star in a live-action movie about Tinker Bell.
Captain Marvel Sequel

Disney confirmed the sequel by including a release date for the film among all of the new Marvel Studios movie dates.
Indiana Jones 5
New release date: July 29, 2022
Original release date: July 9, 2021
This fifth “Indiana Jones” movie with Harrison Ford has been delayed multiple times. It was first confirmed in 2015 after Disney purchased Lucasfilm in October 2012. James Mangold is in talks to direct the film.
Aladdin 2?
Release date: August 12, 2022
Disney has a reported 20 live-action movies in the works. Could this be a date for a sequel to one it has already released? Variety reported in February 2020 the sequel is moving forward.
Ant Man 3?
Release date: October 7, 2022
This date was originally set for a live-action Disney film. It’s unclear at this point what Marvel movie this may be. We do know that a third “Ant-Man” film is on the way is reportedly in the pipeline.
Live-Action Snow White?
Release date: November 4, 2022
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are reportedly working on new music for a live-action “Snow White” movie.
Untitled Animated Film

“Meet the Robinsons” director Stephen Anderson is reportedly working on an animated film for Disney.
Avatar 2

This was previously the date for a new “Star Wars” movie. “Avatar 2” is one of at least four sequels planned for the “Avatar” franchise.

We do know a third “Guardians of the Galaxy” is coming eventually. Director James Gunn said he needs to finish his “Suicide Squad” movie before work on the third film begins. 2022 may be too early for “GotG Vol. 3” since his WB movie is expected to be released in August 2021.

Fans are anxiously awaiting for Disney (who now owns FOX) to it make X-Men and Fantastic Four movies. Perhaps this is the first time we’ll see one!?
