No COVID-19 Outbreaks Linked to Walt Disney World, Cases in Area on the Decline
As we have reported, Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis is super encouraged by the reopening of the Orlando area Theme Parks. Today, we can also confirm the reopening of the Theme Parks, including Walt Disney World, has not lead to any COVID-19 outbreaks which is great news!
Dr. Raul Pino, the head doctor of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, said in today that while there have been a case here or there reported, there haven’t been any outbreaks tied to Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, and Walt Disney World.
Dr. Pino stated, “That is not to say that we haven’t seen a case here and the case over there that refers to parks, like ’I was there last week,’ ‘I was there, you know, three weeks ago’ but we are looking for (outbreaks) and we have not found it.”
Dr. Pino says the lack of a COVID-19 outbreak is largely in part to Guests mainly being outdoors at Walt Disney World and other theme parks. That coupled with new safety protocols such as requiring face coverings and enhanced sanitation measures has kept transmission of the virus low.

“The parks are taking great measures and they have gone to great lengths to be able, you know, to open and to prevent the transmission, but it’s also the whole thing of an open space I think is what’s making the difference. And also, the parks are not full. They are operating on probably less than 50% capacity and that may be a contributing factor,” Dr. Pino said.
In addition to the lack of a COVID-19 outbreak tied to theme parks, overall positive cases continue to decline in Orange County which is home to the majority of the Walt Disney World Resort. Yesterday, the positivity rate of testing was 5.2% which is also great news! Epidemiologists say a pandemic is contained which the positivity rate is below 5%.

Mayor of Orange County, Jerry Demmings, says the decrease in positive cases is from the face covering mandate and social distancing.
Demmings said, “So our numbers are clearly trending in the right direction. If you’re like me that’s encouraging news, but I’m cautiously optimistic about where our numbers are today.”
