Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Will Be Accessible To Users Of Roku, Apple and Google
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog then you know that Disney has decided to bring their live-action update of Mulan directly to their streaming network DIsney+ where subscribers will need to pay an additional $29.99 to view the film. However, if you don’t have Disney+ don’t worry. According to a recent piece in Variety, users of Apple, Google and Roku will also be able to purchase and screen the film.
A Disney rep confirmed to Variety that for purchases of Mulan made on the Disney+ app through the in-app payment systems of Apple’s App Store, Google Play and Roku, Disney will be subject to transaction fees taken by each of those platforms. In case of Apple and Google, they get 30% of the films profits and Roku keeps 20%.
It looks at the moment like Amazon Prime users will be missing out. They are not currently listed as a distribution partner for Mulan. Earlier this month Disney announced that they would release Mulan first as an early-access preview for Disney+ subscribers completely bypassing theatrical distribution.
The film is directed by Niki Caro, is a live-action reimagining of Disney’s 1998 animated feature. Like the original, the new “Mulan” follows a young warrior in China who disguises herself as a man to spare her elderly father from having to serve in the military. The film will premiere on September 4 making it the perfect treat for a family movie night over labor day weekend!
