New Face Coverings Roll Out Across Disney Parks
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog then you know that face-masks at the theme parks is now a “new normal”. At the heart of Disney’s health and safety guidelines, its one of the simply ways that guests can help combat the spread of COVID-19. Today Disney was excited to share a look at they way Disney is keeping cast members safe, comfy and protected upon their return to work.
The company has recently unveiled NEW facemasks that will be allocated to all cast members. The masks were designed in partnership with Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World costuming teams. They were developed remotely through an bi-coastal effort between cast members on both coasts!
Dr Pamela Hymel, Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer had this to say about the new masks, “Over the past several months, we’ve spent significant time and brainpower to provide our cast members with face coverings that are both functional and comfortable, and I’m proud of the incredible results.” She added, “They fit well, feel great and can last for more than 50 washes.”
The facemask project came from a need for a more unified breathable face covering for guests. The new masks are unique, reusable and specifically made for cast members at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Yonit Olshan, Costume Designer at Disneyland Resort Costuming said, ““The unified design speaks to the fact that we are still one unified Cast, one Disney ‘world.” She added, . “As a creative team, we gained so much from each other’s experience and exposure to different types of problems and projects.”
Created exclusively for cast members, the new masks come in two styles, pleated and contoured and in a variety of sizes. Reportedly, the design team tested a wide range of fabrics, styles and features before deciding on a finished product . Both versions of the mask feature adjustable spandex, an extended nose pinch to the face, a contoured under-eye and lightweight and made with quick drying material.
The final design pays homage to classic Disney characters, films, and television shows and unifies cast members on both coasts with themes of joy, magic and of course – pixie dust! The image features Mickey constellations which conjures up Peter Pans “second star to the right” and reminds us to keep wishing on a star!
We love the new designs and can’t wait to see cast members sporting them in the weeks to come!
