According to a description found on the official YouTube video for the recreation the work has been dubbed the ALICE 1958 project. It pays homage to the ORIGINAL version of Disneyland’s Alice in Wonderland attraction. For those that may not have known, the version you experience today is not the original. That unique experience was destroyed back in 1983 after 25 years. It is a ride that was enjoyed by millions of Disney fans and one that Disney enthusiasts recall fondly!
What makes the video we’re about to show you so EXCEPTIONAL is that no film or video documentation was found for the ride and clear photography was hard to come by. So the recreation had to be painstakingly pieced together and the creators said that they did take some creative liberties when filling in the gaps.
Let’s take a look:
According to the description, Claude Coats, the original lead designer for the 1958 attraction was influenced by carnival spook-house rides where experiences were deliberately a bit dark and frightening. Many Disney historians believe that the ride was updates to make the ride less scary and more true to the film. One such example was that characters like White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat and Dormouse were quite looming and sinister in the original.
The creators did note that this version of the video does not allow for moving props or doors and includes the indoor portion of the attraction only .However, after watching it we think you’ll agree its quite a feat! Kudos to the creators!
