Lin-Manuel Miranda Shares His Disney+ Top 10 Watchlist on Instagram
Earlier this morning, we here at MickeyBlog shared the news that a month after making its DIsney+ premiere, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton continues to prove popular with Disney’s streaming subscribers. In addition, Miranda is providing viewers with some awesome insights in terms of what his favorite Disney+ programs are via Instagram!
Here’s a look at Miranda’s Top 10 List to add some inspiration to your weekend viewing.
The Little Mermaid
It’s not surprising that this Disney animated classic tops the list. As we’ve previously reported here at MickeyBlog, Miranda is currently collaborating with Disney Legend Alan Menken on music for the live-action adaptation of the film! If its been a while since you’ve hung out with Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian and the rest of the gang, make it your Disney+ must-do for the weekend.

Executive Producer Kristen Bell links up with former castmates of a high school musical asking them decades later to recreate their original performance! You never know what to expect as students face faded friendships, former flames, self doubt and some killer dance moves! Through it all, and with a little help from Broadway’s best, they may just pull off the performance of a lifetime with popular musicals like “The Sound of Music,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Annie.”
Howard
Directed by Don Hahn (“Beauty and the Beast”), “Howard” is the untold story of Howard Ashman, the brilliant lyricist behind Disney classics like “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid” and creator of musicals including “Little Shop of Horrors.” The documentary offers never-before-seen footage, personal films, photographs and interviews with Howard’s friends. From his Baltimore childhood to his years in New York, you explore his life, death and quest to become the lyricist of some of the most beloved songs in the world.
Black Panther
This Marvel Studios must-see follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. However, when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Face with insurmountable odds, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
Into The Unknown: Making Frozen 2
Offering incredible insights into the development of perhaps the most anticipated Disney sequel ever- Frozen 2, Into the Unknown follows the filmmakers, artists and songwriters behind the hit film. They open their doors to the cameras for a 6-part documentary series that shows the hard work, dedication, heart and collaboration it took to bring this film to life. Cameras managed to capture some incredible eye-opening moments with its fair share of challenges and breakthroughs.
Ducktales
It’s not too much of a surprise to find DuckTales on the list considering that Lin-Manuel Miranda is the voice of Gizmoduck in the series! If this brings back awesome childhood memories of Huey, Dewey and Louie, trust us when we say this new series is just as awesome as the original! Join Donald’s nephews, Scrooge McDuck and a host of other familiar faces as they face dangerous foes, treacherous temple traps, and their over-protective Uncle Donald Duck!
Moana
A sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana (voice of Auliʻi Cravalho) convinces the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a wayfinder like her ancestors who sailed before her. Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills her quest and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”), produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), and featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa‘i.
Free Solo
This documentary won the Academy Award in 2019 for Best Documentary. It provides an intimate and unflinching portrait of a free-solo climber Alex Honnold. In the film, Alex prepares to achieve his lifelong dream of scaling the face of the world’s most famous rock- the El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, which is 3,200 feet tall. To make it even more impressive, he plans to do it without a rope!
Toy Story
Released on November 22, 1995, this is the Pixar film that started it all! Led by Woody, Andy’s toys live happily in his room until Andy’s birthday brings Buzz Lightyear onto the scene. Afraid of losing his place in Andy’s heart, Woody plots against Buzz. But when circumstances separate Buzz and Woody from their owner, the duo eventually learns to put aside their differences.
Bluey
