Disney’s Baby Mandril Gets a Name
Earlier this week, we here at MickeyBlog shared the news that Disney’s Animal Kingdom recently welcomed a brand new animal baby! A baby Mandril came into the world at the end of July and we got to see the first pictures.
However, since mom was feeling a bit protective, Disney’s incredible team of animal care experts weren’t able to get close enough to determine gender. That is until now…..
We present to you BABY OLIVE!
Dr. Mark Penning VP of Animal Sciences and Environment said, “She’s been clinging so close to her mom since her birth on July 25 so it took a few days for the animal care team to determine the baby mandrill is a girl.” Olive is the daughter mother Scarlett and father Linus.
Mandrills, which are found in the African rainforests are the largest species of monkey in the world according to Dr. Penning. Olive’s birth was a momentous occasion for all of those at Animal Kingdom but also for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan which works to make sure that responsible breeding is happening for endangered species.
If you’ll be visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the weeks ahead you should be on the lookout for baby. We hear that Scarlett has been showing off her new arrival to guests on Kilimanjaro Safari !
Welcome to the world Baby Olive! We here at MickeyBlog can’t wait to watch you grow up!
