Tax Refund Checks In Rhode Island Showing Up Signed By Mickey Mouse
Tax refunds are extra magical in and of themselves (especially with the year were having) but some unsuspecting recipients in Rhode Island are getting an extra dose of pixie dust when they’re checks arrive. In a story that is almost so unbelievable that it couldn’t possibly be made up, Rhode Island mistakenly sent more than 175 tax refund checks signed by Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse, rather than the state treasurer and controller.
TMZ shared an image of these refunds, let’s take a look:
Making the story even better is the fact that government officials in Rhode Island hadn’t realized that this was happening until residents had reported receiving them in the mail!
So how did such a thing come to pass? According to a report from WPRI-TV, fest files used by the State feature dummy signatures which were unfortunately not removed before the checks were sent out. According to the report, the checks were tax refunds for corporate, sales and tax credits that went out mostly to local businesses.
The tax division has now gone through and voided all the checks and will issue new checks “properly” signed by General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and State Controller Peter Kennan next week.
Here at MickeyBlog we hope the recipients are given the option of hanging on to the original checks as we reckon they’d make quite the keepsake! Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us for further Disney-related news and updates.
