Not-To-Be-Missed Shows Coming Your Way This Weekend
TGIF Disney friends! We’re bringing the entertainment to your Friday- Sunday with a round-up of some of the “Incredible” shows coming your way this weekend. We’ve got the Parr family, an inspirational film from Ron Howard, a brand new episode of Big City Greens, the always amazing movie Hidden Figures and … SHARKS!
Incredibles 2—Friday, July 31, on Disney+
If you’ve yet to see the sequel to this beloved Pixar film, add it to the top of your weekend must-do list. The film finds Helen (voiced by Holly Hunter) selected to launch a campaign to bring more superheroes back into the world. While mom is out organizing its out to day (Bob- voiced by Craig T. Nelson) to hold down the fort at home and manage the heroics of daily life with the three Parr children: Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack. However, when a villian emerges with a dangerous plot that threatens to destroy our World, the Parrs reassemble along with some help from Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) to thwart these dastardly plans.
Rebuilding Paradise—Friday, July 31, in Select Theaters and Virtual Screenings
Opening in more than 70 markets as part of a “hybrid release” in addition to a virtual release through ShowcaseNOW, Rebuilding Paradise is slated to open in select drive-ins and individual cinemas. It takes us back to the morning of November 8, 2018 when a spark from a transmission line in Northern California creates a firestorm that engulfs the city of Paradise, California resulting in the deaths of over 80 people, displacing 50,000 residents and destroying 95% of architecture. This made the fire in Paradise the deadliest U.S. fire in 100 years and the worst in California history. Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard and his crew spend nearly a yea with Paradise residents as they faced the utter devastation of this 141 year old town and the ways in which they worked together to heal.
Hidden Figures—Saturday, August 1, at 7 p.m. ET on FX
As we reported recently here at MickeyBlog, Disney is currently making a musical based on this Award-winning film. Based on a true story, Hidden Figures follows three Black women at NASA – Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Best Supporting Actress nominee Octavia Pencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) who serve as the brains behind the launch of John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit. It was a mission that restored confidence in NASA and turned around the Space Race.
Big City Greens—Saturday, August 1, at 8 p.m. ET on Disney Channel
Tomorrow’s episode “Friend Con” sees the Greens attend Farm Con. Bill (voiced by Bob Joles) and Chip Whistler (voiced by Paul Scheer) become friends. Darin De Paul guest stars as Good Ol’ Joe and Cheri Oteri returns as Gwendolyn Zapp.) Then in episode “Flimflammed,” Cricket (voiced by Chris Haughton) finds $100 and is persuaded to invest it.
Shark vs. Surfer—Sunday, August 2, at 8 p.m. ET on National Geographic
Its Sharkfest over at National Geographic. This documentary looks at the a startling numbers of surfers endangered as shark attacks worldwide go on the rise. The documentary visits shark-infested surf spots around the world to recounts some of the most harrowing shark vs. surfer stories. The show will feature caught-on-camera encounters and even interviews with the surfers themselves. Marine biologists Ryan Johnson and Dr. Stephen Kajiura will also be on hand to lend their expertise and help answer the question “Are we really in danger.”
