About Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure
To explain (in case you’ve been locked in a tower), the synopsis for the show reads:
Set between the stories told in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ acclaimed film “Tangled” and its short film “Tangled Ever After,” this visually vibrant animated adventure-comedy series unfolds as Rapunzel acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona. Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world lead her to realize that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can accept her royal destiny… Accompanying Rapunzel on her journey are Eugene (FKA Flynn Rider); her loyal chameleon sidekick, Pascal; her no-nonsense, dutiful horse, Maximus; the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs; and newcomer Cassandra, a tough-as-nails lady-in-waiting who becomes Rapunzel’s confidante.
Nominated for seven Daytime Emmy Awards — a high percentage of Disney Channel’s 23 noms — Menken’s work was up against songs from Big Hero 6: The Series, Elena of Avalor, The Lion Guard, and Vampirina.
Select Company For Menken
Additionally, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Menken is the 16th person to achieve EGOT status.
This is not Menken’s first Emmy, but it is his first competitive Emmy. He received an honorary Primetime Emmy in 1990 for his work on “Wonderful Ways to Say No” from Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, an anti-drug special produced by the TV academy.
Menken also has won eight Oscars, with those wins coming for songs and scores from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas. He also has won 11 Grammys, for his work on the aforementioned films. He won a Tony Award in 2012 for best original score for Newsies.
Previous EGOT winners include Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg and, mostly recently, John Legend, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Finally, the winning song, “Waiting in the Wings,” composed by Menken, enjoyed a terrific performance by Eden Espinoza and Hudson D’Andrea.
