Florida Airports Suspend Screening Passengers from Tri-State Area
Back in March, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, issued an executive order requiring anyone entering the state from the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut) to self-quarantine for 14 days. This anyone entering the state by plane or car and members of the National Guard were tasked with screening Guests and obtaining contact forms to track there whereabouts in Florida. Anyone who broke this order was subject to a fine up to $500 and a jail sentence up to 60 days.

Florida officials are trying to reassure residents that the risk posed by a new strain of coronavirus remains low, despite revelations that two people have become the first in the state to be confirmed to have the virus. However, per Newsweek, it appears that enforcement of that order at Florida airports has ended. On the Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International Airport site, the following has been posted:
Florida Department of Health representatives will however no longer screen arriving passengers with a questionnaire and collect contact information effective June 30, but travelers are still required to self-quarantine upon arrival in Florida.

Most recently, DeStantis stated that the quarantine orders for those coming from the Tri-State would be in effect until the end of Florida’s state of emergency. That order was extended until the end of July but may be lifted in September. The order was enacted when many started leaving the Northern area once strict shelter in place orders were put in place in New York City and coming down to warmer weather in Florida.
Newsweek did reach out to the Florida Department of Health as well as the Florida National Guard for comment but none was given as writing this.

It is important to reiterate that the quarantine orders for those coming from the Tri-State area to Florida have not ended but have rather the screening process has been suspended for those flying into the state. Hopefully, the quarantine orders will be lifted and the state of emergency will be lifted in September. Make sure to keep it here with MickeyBlog.com for all the latest!
