Magic Kingdom Tops Worldwide Theme Park Attendance For 2019
Though this year was absolutely filled with some unexpected twists and turns, back in 2019 (seems like ages ago doesn’t it) Magic Kingdom was officially the most visited theme park in the world. This is according to a recent piece in the Orlando Sentinel that sights data compiled by TEA/AECOM. Disney World’s most popular theme park drew in 20.96 million visitors last year which was a .5% increase on 2018.
Disneyland in Anaheim wasn’t too far behind with 18.67 million visitors in 2019.

So how did Disney World’s other theme parks stack up? They came in third, 4th and 5th place in the national rankings. Disney’s Animal Kingdom recorded 13.89 million visitors (up 1%); Epcot had 12.44 million (no change); and Disney’s Hollywood Studios welcomed 11.48 million up 2% according to reports.
Disney’s biggest Orlando competitor Universal Studios Florida came in 6th with 10.92 million visitors closely followed by Universal’s Islands of Adventure with 10.38 million people. SeaWorld Orlando finished 10th on the 2019 list with 4.64 million visitors.
In 2019 Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach Water Parks held the distinction of being the biggest drawing water parks in the nation. Typhoon Lagoon had 2.25 million visitors and Blizzard Beach had 1.98 million.
The Themed Entertainment Association who compiled the survey pointed to the addition of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios as an attendance booster. According to the piece in the Sentinel, the numbers are of course based on conditions before COVID-19. There is expected to be drop of 30-50% in the months after reopening. The reported also stated , “It may take one to several years to return to pre-COVID operating levels, and the investment horizon of many owners may be altered due to cash flow loss.”
As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, Walt Disney World’s four theme parks are now all operating at a reduced capacity after a phased reopening following a four-month COVID-19 shutdown.
