Josh D’Amaro Confident on Safe Reopening for Walt Disney World
Yesterday, Walt Disney World began testing out their new health and safety protocols with a Cast Member preview at the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While many are nervous about the iconic Theme Park reopening as COVID-19 numbers continue to spike in Florida; President of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, Josh D’Amaro, defends the reopening in an interview with the New York Times.

D’Amaro stated, “The world is changing around us, but we strongly believe that we can open safely and responsibly.” He continued, “For those that might have questions or concerns, when they see how we are operating and the aggressive protocols that we have put in place, they will understand.”
He went on to say, “This is our new normal. Our new reality. Covid is here, and we have a responsibility to figure out the best approach to safely operate in this new normal. Businesses across the country are open, whether it’s a local pizza shop in Orlando or an airline taking on new guests.”

D’Amaro looks to the reopening of Shanghai Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, and the Tokyo Disney Resort as a positive sign that things will go well at Walt Disney World and reports those Parks and Resort have reopened “without incident.”

In the article, the New York Times also interviewed an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Dr. William Schaffner stated, “Disney’s approach seems reasonable. If Disney strictly enforces the safety procedures it has outlined — no exceptions — it will keep the risk very low for visitors and employees.”
Schaffner went on to say that he still doesn’t advise anyone over the age of 60 to visit at this time.
