Crane Near Swan and Dolphin Gets Struck By Ligtning
The morning got off to a rather interesting start at Walt Disney World with the news that a lightning storm in the area got a bit too close for comfort.
Reports came in at 11:30 this morning on WFTV that lightning struck a construction crane working on the Cove area of the Swan and Dolphin Resort. The strike caused a small fire which was quickly extinguished.
A meteorologist for WFTV had this to say about the strike “Lightning can strike over 10 miles away from the base of a thunderstorm. Many accidents have occurred well before a storm moves over or even when this storm is well away from the area. She added, “When thunder roars, go indoors. There is no other rule that works when there is lightning around.”
Here’s a look at some images from the scene that appeared on Twitter this morning.
I just watched lightning hit this crane at the construction site at the Swan and Dolphin. Smoke and flames active. Scariest thing I’ve ever seen, loudest noise I’ve ever heard. I’m shaking. pic.twitter.com/zsZnmKGipM

For those that have been following along with MickeyBlog, you know that the Swan and Dolphin Resort has been in the news a lot over the past few weeks. The property, owned by Marriott is serving as the temporary residence for MLS players who are in town for a tournament taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.
However, F.C. Dallas recently had to pull out of the competition due to ten of their players coming down with the COVID-19 virus. At the moment, the players are being quarantined on the property as plans are made to arrange for their travel home.
