Governor Ron DeSantis Has Extended the State of Emergency in Florida
Due to the increases in COVID-19 cases in the State of Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has extended the state of emergency in Florida. Yesterday, DeSantis signed the executive order which will extend the state of emergency which was first declared on March 9th. The extension will last another 60-days.
According to a recent piece on ClickOrlando, declaring a state of emergency means that the Governor DeSantis can direct fund to help the state combat the virus. You can check out the executive order by following the link below:

The extension comes in conjunction with the news that Florida has set a new statewide record for the most cases of COVID-19 cases over the course of a single day. That number was reached on Saturday (July 4th) with 11,000 new cases in a day. As of going to print there are NOW over 200,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state.
Despite the recent increase in cases, Florida still remains in phase two of reopening the economy. However, in some badly hit areas of the state leaders are starting to roll back reopening plans. Several counties have also issued mask mandates requiring face coverings to be worn in public.
As of going to print, Walt Disney World still plans on reopening the theme parks this week. Yesterday Cast Member previews happened at the park. Tomorrow passholder previews will take place with Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom officially opening their gates to guests starting on Saturday, July 11th. In addition, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT will open a few days later on July 15th.
