Spooky Star Wars: Dark Legends
It’s a little early for Halloween, but Star Wars takes place “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,” doesn’t it? So we’ll take spooky Star Wars news as it comes.
And Star Wars: Dark Legends comes to us in that new genre.

Dark Legends: Scary Star Wars Stories
“Dark Legends is a collection of spooky myths and legends from the deepest, darkest corners of the Star Wars universe,” author George Mann told SYFY WIRE. “From Sith Lords to Nightsisters, from hauntings to terrible transformations, we explore the dark side of the Force in its many different facets. The stories are told in the form of classic fireside ghost stories, cautionary bedtime tales, and dark fairytales. They should send chills down your spines, but hopefully, they’re a lot of fun to read too!”
Mann — who penned Star Wars: Myths & Fables — does not think this new set of tales falls too far from the Force tree.
“There are already so many perfect characters and situations in the Star Wars universe that lend themselves to a darker spin, and the thing about fables like this is there’s always a twist in the tale,” he adds. “Characters get their comeuppance. People who dabble in the dark side get more than they bargained for. Boogeymen really do exist.”
The sample excerpt of Star Wars: Dark Legends posted by SyFy.com features the following paragraph regarding a certain orphanage:
Only, all was not well at the orphanage, for amongst the children there were tales of a dark terror who came in the night: a tall, thin man with sharp teeth and glowing eyes, who from time to time would visit the orphanage to steal away children, scooping them out of their beds and dragging them through the window, their cries muffled and unheard. The children who were taken by this horrifying creature were never heard from again.
Yeesh.

Yikes.
I’ll be picking this up on July 28. In the meantime, read the entire article and excerpt over at SyFy.com.
