7 Awesome Lin-Manuel Miranda Disney Projects
This week, my excitement over Hamilton making its debut on Disney+ is almost uncontainable! Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical is making its debut on the Disney+ streaming service on Friday, July 3rd.
I thought what better way to celebrate than to pay tribute to Miranda by showcasing some of the awesome Disney-related projects you can find him in. From films I’m sure you knew about like Mona to ones that are delightfully obscure, each one is perfect to watch in the lead-in to Hamilton’s debut.
Mary Poppins Returns
Miranda was heavily involved in this eagerly awaited sequel to Walt Disney’s iconic 1964 award-winning film Mary Poppins. In the film, Miranda portrays Jack, a London lamplighter who helps his magical friend Mary (played by Emily Blunt) bring joy and wonder back to the Banks family.
Moana
Miranda was nominated for an Academy Award for penning the song “How Far I’ll Go” Miranda also co-created several other songs from the film which follows a headstrong Moana, heir to the throne in her Polynesian village who with the help of the once-mighty demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) fulfils an ancient quest to save her people.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens / Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Okay. So here are ones you may not have known about. Lin-Manuel Miranda actually wrote the song for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens scene at Maz Kanata’s cantina. But that’s not all! He also made an uncredited appearance in The Rise of Skywalker as a Resistance trooper.
DuckTales
Miranda was a lifelong devotee of DuckTales which is why its only fitting that he now voices one of Duckberg’s very own characters! Since 2018, Miranda has portrayed Gizmoduck a young scientist who becomes Duckburg’s No. 1 hero.

Modern Family
Here’s another slightly more obscure Lin-Manuel Miranda sighting. He actually appeared in an episode of ABC’s hit show Modern Family. You may notice him in 2011’s “Good Cop Bad Dog” where he plays Guillermo, a grocery store worker who tries to convince Ed O’Neill to invest in his slightly unconventional dog-training system.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012)
This was Miranda’s first feature film appearance for Disney dating back to 2012. The film follows hopeful parents Cindy (Jennifer Garner) and Jim Green (Joel Edgerton) as they encounter a 10-year-old boy (CJ Adams) who claims to be their son. Miranda plays Reggie, a local botanist who tries to discern how—and why— the boy’s legs are covered with mysterious leaves.
