Beyonce’s Visual Album ‘Black Is King’ Is Coming to Disney+ Next Month
Boy do we have some fantastic news for Beyoncé, fans! Disney just announced today that a new “visual album” from the megastar will be making its debut on Disney+ next month!
“Black Is King” was inspired by “The Lion King.” As you know Beyonce voiced the role of Nala in the live-action version of the film which came out in theaters last year! According to a recent piece in Variety, “Black is King” is written, directed and executive produced by Beyoncé,
A one-minute teaser for the film dropped last night on beyonce.com and you can check it out here.

We do know the project is based on the music of “The Lion King – The Gift” which was released by Disney last year to coincide with the release of “The Lion King.” The Beyoncé-produced album features Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, 070 Shake, Tierra Whack, Jay-Z, Blue Ivy Carter and Jessie Reyez, as well as African artists including Wizkid, Shatta Wale, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Busiswa and Salatiel.
The visual album is being hailed as a celebratory memoir for the world of the Black experience. Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment said in a statement, “The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.”
Through the project, Beyoncé’s album reimagines lessons of “The Lion King” for today’s young kings and queens. According to Variety, the film pays tribute to voyages of Black families throughout time. The album tells the story of a young king’s “transcendent journey through betrayal, love and self-identity.” Through guidance from his ancestors, his father’s teachings and a bit of help from his childhood love he earns the virtues needed to reclaim his home and throne. ”
On Juneteenth, Beyoncé surprised fans when she dropped the album “Black Parade” which was a collaboration with her husband Jay-Z. Its message is one of Black empowerment and centers around the nationwide Black Lives Matter protests.
