Fence Being Put Up Around Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for NBA Bubble
As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, the rest of the 2019-2020 NBA Season will be officially taking place at Walt Disney World Resort with games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the players are being housed across a handful of Walt Disney World resorts including Grand Floridian, Gran Destino in Coronado Springs and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club.
Earlier today we popped over to the Grand Floridian to get a glimpse of the extra-large mattresses being hauled into the resort that needed to be specially created for the players. In addition, construction crews have been hard at work building a barrier around the Grand Floridian property. Let’s take a look.
As part of Disney and the NBA’s commitment to keep players and guests safe during the COVID-19 crisis, they are creating a bubble of sorts meant to limit the amount of cast, crew, players and guests coming in and out of the NBA’s designated areas.
As we previously mentioned some 163 guests rooms at the Grand Floridian will provide accommodation to players from the Memphis Grizzlies, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks, Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
In addition, the Grand Floridian will also be home to NBA-related events during the season.
Last week, the NBA issued a 113-page “Health and Safety Protocols” document to members to explain how the league will attempt to distance itself from the outside world during the season.
The goal is to isolate NBA players and staff as much as possible and to minimize the contact they have with the outside world. As you can see by placing fencing around the perimeter the Grand Floridian is limiting access to the grounds.
The season, which was interrupted by the pandemic, will resume in July with team practices and games played at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Arena, HP Field House and Visa Athletic Center.
Gameplay will resume on July 30 with 22 teams (the eight teams in each conference with the highest current winning percentages and the six teams currently within six games of the eighth seed in either conference) competing to determine seeding for the NBA Playoffs. The playoffs will feature 16 teams and the NBA Finals will end no later than October 13 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
