Disney Presents the FIRST® Global Innovation Award
FIRST® is a leader in advancing STEM education for youth. It is a non-profit and has been active for over 25 years. Disney is a proud supporter of FIRST and has recently presented the Global Innovation Awards after a virtual competition.
Disney is rooted in innovation. The company has used new and cutting edge innovation to bring characters to life since its inception. This time FIRST partners with Disney in a competition featuring 20 semi-finalist teams (out of the original 40,000 from over 100 countries). The teams have worked together all year in the “FIRST RISE, powered by Star Wars: Force for Change season in hands-on, team-based robotics challenges”.
Students who are part of this challenge will use innovation to solve some of the world’s most difficult societal problems.
The FIRST Lego league challenge asked students ages 9-16 to use the Black Spire Outpost as inspiration on how to improve their hometowns. Many students came with a hometown problem that needed solving and used this opportunity to brainstorm solutions.
“Disney’s work with FIRST is rooted in one simple commonality: a shared mission to inspire big dreams. FIRST is at the forefront of inspiring kids to dream big and reach their potential through science and technology. See where these students’ paths to change the future begin during the Global Innovation Award broadcast on Saturday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. ET / 8:00 a.m. PT on FIRSTtv.” (DisneyParksBlog)
