Disney Loving Teen Spreads Happiness with her Chalk Drawings
New Paris, Ohio teen, Leah Jonas, has found a way to brighten our day with some Disney fun. As we all wait patiently for the parks to open and the Disney characters to again fill the streets, Leah is filling her own neighborhood streets with Disney themed chalk drawings.

The talented high school teen says, “I do draw, but that was mainly all I did. I never really painted. All I did was draw, but I thought it would be nice to try something new,” says artist Leah Jonas.
“I have made chalk drawings on the sidewalk for the kids to basically take a break from all what’s going on,” describes Leah.
Her art started with Stitch and grew from there.

“People were driving by, and she’d get some people commenting saying, ‘Oh that looks great,’” said her mom, Shannon Sowder.
Leah’s work is free hand, which is even more impressive for a young teen, and she has drawn the characters since April. She also gets a lot of requests. Even from the neighborhood police.

The teen has even had some job offers. “She’s had a lot of donations too. People just randomly stop by and bring her chalk. She’s had some people stop and give her some money to get some more chalk. She’s had people offer to bring her snacks and drinks while she’s out here,” said Shannon.

Even as a young teen, Leah credits her ideas to her love of art. She would love to put some of her drawings on walls as well and is thinking about petitioning the village counsel to allow her to draw something permanent in the neighborhood. It’s kids like Leah who give us all a little bit of hope during an otherwise dismal time.
