Black Lives Matter Message Appears on Lucasfilm’s Iconic Yoda Statue
In a powerful moment that has since gone viral, a message reading “Matter, Black Lives Do” appeared on the side of the iconic Yoda statue located outside of Lucasfilm HQ.
A picture was taken of the message written in green and featuring wise Yoda’s signature way of speaking and before long, the image was widely shared across social media where it caught the attention of Luke Skywalker himself- actor Mark Hammil as well as Finn actor John Boyega.

As you can see from a copy of Hammil’s tweet above, he featured an adaptation of a Yoda quote to make his tweet resonate even more. The caption reads, “Luminous beings are we…ALL.”:
A writer from the Hollywood Reporter apparently stopped by Lucasfilm HQ in San Francisco and confirmed that the image is real and not a result of photoshop. This has also been confirmed by Disney.
John Boyega who played the role of Finn in the last three films in the Skywalker Trilogy also posted the image on his Instagram account as you can see above.
The Yoda statue message is a simple yet powerful statement in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests that have occurred across the globe to fight police brutality.

On May 31st, Star Wars released an official statement on their Twitter and Facebook accounts that read,”We stand against racism. We stand for inclusion. We stand with our fellow Black employees, storytellers, creators and the entire black community.”
Earlier in the week, John Boyega made headlines when he gave an incredibly powerful speech at a London protest. He spoke passionately about the struggles that come with being black at the importance of the Black Lives Matter Movement. After the speech, Lucasfilm released the following message:
