Disney Is In Trouble With Hong Kong Firm Over Use Of The Title “WandaVision”
As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, Disney and Marvel have announced that series WandaVision is slated to resume filming in Los Angeles next month. The series which focuses on the Scarlet Witch and Vision (hence the title) is expected to be the first Marvel-based series to debut on Disney’s streaming network reportedly as early as later this year.
However, a Hong Kong firm called The Wanda Group is far from happy about the title for Disney’s new series. According to a piece in NewsLagoon.com, the trademark dispute arose when Disney was trying to trademark the title WandaVision. The Wanda Company is apparently challenging Marvel/Disney for registered trademarks on items like board games, action figures, activity toys and more. Because of the extensive nature of the claim, insiders are suggesting that the lawsuit may delay the series.
The production was shut down in mid-March along with another Marvel-based DIsney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The 6-episode series also features follows Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision. For those following along with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you’ll know that Wanda is an Avenger with telekinesis and telepathy and VIsion is a hybrid of J.A.R.V.I.S, the Mind Stone and Ultron. The pair started a romantic relationship in Infinity War but ended when Vision was killed by Thanos.
We absolutely cannot wait to see the series which promises to be a comedic, action sort of Hybrid. However, what remains unclear is whether the recent turn of events with The Wanda Company will have an impact on when we can tune in. As NewsLagoon suggests, we expect that Marvel will want to be on the other side of the lawsuit before reshoots resume.
