Some Disney World Cast Members Say They’re Still Waiting For Their First Unemployment Check
When Disney announced that the parks would remain closed until further notice back in April, the company also made the decision to furlough the majority of their Orlando employees. This gave thousands of Orlando cast members the opportunity to apply for unemployment to provide them with some financial support during this uncertain time.
However, according to a recent piece on ClickOrlando, hundreds of Disney employees that registered for unemployment in April are now saying their are still waiting for their state and federal unemployment checks to come through.
According to the piece, News 6 conducted a Zoom interview with cast members who said that the system hasn’t worked for them. One Cast Member, James McGaha who works at Walt Disney World’s All-Star Resorts said that the has been without money since being furloughed on April 19th.
Another Florida resident Chris Corman who worked for Disney Cruise Line told the news network that he was told that the DEO couldn’t verify his identity. The message on the website simply says, “We are unable to authenticate your identity as this time however, there is no action required from you.”
A third employee Kristin Pauly, and IT specialist was working with Fort Wilderness when she was furloughed. She said, “There’s very little left in the bank,” Pauley said, “we’re just not getting the help we need.” Pauley said in the interview that she’d been receiving state and federal unemployment checks initially but that suddenly they stopped coming without explanation.
“I understand that I am very lucky that I received several payments, she said, “ for the others going without payments for seven weeks is just horrible it’s not right.”
