Re-Watch These Movies Before Returning to Universal
Universal Orlando is prepping for reopening. You can, too! Just watch the movies…
Grab the popcorn, kids. Universal is giving us a homework assignment, just days before they re-open.
Yes, the theme park portion of the Summer of 2020 is about to begin.
However, the Discover Universal Blog has a watch list for the final moments of #UniversalAtHome.
Last week, Denielle Ricci wrote, “It’s a quiet Thursday night and I’m staring at my TV trying to decide what to watch. I’m on day 78 since I was last at the parks, and saying I miss them is an understatement. The rides, the food, the music, even the feeling of driving through the parking garages and riding the moving walkways.
“BUT. In the meantime, the next best thing to “riding the movies” is watching them with the surround sound on so loud, the couch shakes like a ride.
“So, I’m making popcorn, firing up the TV, and starting my very own Universal Orlando Resort movie marathon,” she added.
Check Out The Movies Before The Rides
Here are three of Ms. Ricci’s favorites (with her notes in italics), which I will be watching this weekend as I report on the reopening of Universal Orlando:
FOR THE ACTION: Universal Pictures’ The Mummy
One of the rides I have to do every time I go to the parks is Revenge of the Mummy. Not only do you get the thrills of a roller coaster mixed with a little scary Egyptian curse vibe, but you find yourself laughing too — which is exactly what you get from the movie.
Yes, I am a HUGE Indiana Jones fan. But I am also a big Brendan Fraser fan and his blend of Indy and Han Solo makes for an enjoyable romp of a popcorn flick
FOR THE FANTASY: Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter Films
Sometimes we all need to escape to a magical world and there is no better place than The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Strolling through the streets of Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, casting spells, watching the shows, riding the rides, and drinking Butterbeer.
Pass me the butterbeer! My favorite of the Harry Potter movies is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
I believe the first few scenes of the film set up a dramatic switch in the tone of the movies and put Harry on the fast-track to The Deathly Hallows.
FOR THE NOSTALGIA: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Mix some peanut butter and chocolate candy in with your popcorn and get ready for a trip down nostalgia lane (and salty, sweet flavors). Start your Universal Orlando movie marathon with the film that inspired one of the first rides at the park – E.T. Adventure.
I’ll admit, this movie scared the bejeezus out of me when I was little (because of the alien element – a recurring nightmare theme from my childhood, thanks “In Search Of…”). But both the ride and the movie should be just fine for everyone in the family/
Be sure to check out the remainder of Denielle’s list. And enjoy your prep to return to the Florida Theme Parks!
