Today was a BIG day for Orlando theme parks as Universal Orlando officially opened for previews. As we shared earlier today here at MickeyBlog, the lines to get into the theme parks were pretty packed this morning as tourists and locals flocked to this popular theme park.
To celebrate this milestone after the COVID-19 shutdown saw all theme parks shuttered in March, governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference today. You can check out coverage by following the link below:
The conference took place at Universal CityWalk and the governor addressed the reopening of SeaWorld, Universal and Walt Disney World (which is opening after the other two on July 11th.
The big news to come out of the press conference was that DeSantis will be moving the state to a Phase2 reopening by the end of the week. Not only does this give greater flexibility when it comes to theme parks reopening but also means that bars and movie theaters can also start unveiling their plans for reopening.
According to DeSantis, under the new Phase 2 executive order, bars will be able to open at 50% capacity inside and full capacity outside. There still needs to be 6 feet of social distancing between tables.
The reopening also includes businesses such as movie theaters, bowling alleys and concert halls provided that attendance is kept at 50% capacity with social-distancing.
Since the news is brand new, there’s little insight as of yet regarding what impact this announcement will have on theaters like the AMC in Disney Springs, Splitsville Luxury Lanes or even the Drawn to Life show by Cirque du Soliel which was expected to start previews just before COVID-19 hit.
Here at MickeyBlog we’ve been coming to you LIVE from Universal Studios, Florida which is currently offering a passholder preview. The theme park will open to the general public along with Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay on June 5th. Sea World in Orlando will be the next to open on June 10th and Walt Disney theme parks will be waiting an extra month finally opening on July 11th.
