It is almost impossible to read or watch the news lately without feeling discouraged. A nation seemingly too divided to set aside our differences, we have a great deal of healing to do. Kristen Bell, the voice of Anna from the Frozen franchise, has written’s a children’s book aiming to do just that! In a world polarized by red and blue, Bell is asking us to become “purple people.”
Co-written with Benjamin Hart, “The World Needs More Purple People” invites readers to celebrate what we share in common, as opposed to focusing on our differences. In an interview with USA Today, Bell shares the inside scoop behind the book’s message.

This is my first ever bathroom selfie. I'm quite pleased with it. Because #TheWorldNeedsMorePurplePeople is coming out soon!!! And with everything closed, I crafted my own tee shirt before I recorded the audio book this morning from my house. @hartben and I wrote #TheWorldNeedsMorePurplePeople, illustrated by @d_wiseman, as a guide for kids to become #PurplePeople. As @hartben said, "this book is our way to spark some human connection back into the world." I am so very proud of this book, thank you @hartben,@d_wiseman and @randomhouse 💜 #ImAPurplePerson
Why a Children’s Book?
“There’s a high probability that if a child is reading this book, a parent is either near or reading it to them,” Bell told USA TODAY. This philosophy is the reason that Bell targeted such a young audience, in hopes that the message would reach some grown-ups as well.
Bell feels that now is the perfect time to release this book, in light of the pandemic. She explains that we share so much more in common than we realize. “Right now we are all experiencing something together, which is this global pandemic. We have commonality.”

NKH has always been there for kids who need them. They work tirelessly to provide food for the hungry bellys all over this country. I encourage anyone with the means to share to donate as well, any amount helps, so we can get through this together. (The reason the number is odd, is because when my kids overheard me making the donation, they asked if they could also donate the money from thier piggy bank. I couldnt have been prouder to add that extra, and important 7 dollars and 96 cents.😍😍😍) #Repost @nokidhungry with @make_repost ・・・ We’re BEYOND grateful to our friend and #HungerHero @kristenanniebell for her gift of $150,007.96! Thank you for helping us send out even more grants to schools and community groups working to feed kids during the #COVID19 outbreak.
In the article from USA Today, Bell states that she is acutely aware of how children listen to everything we say as adults. She understands that the divisiveness expressed by adults is often absorbed by our kids without us realizing it. Her book aims to send a message of understanding one another, in order to bring us together.
We certainly cannot argue with her message. The world needs something to bring us together, and a children’s book might just be a great place to start. “The World Needs More Purple People” will be released on June 2nd. Be sure to pick up a copy for your family!
