An Update On the Script For ‘Indiana Jones 5’
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog this year then you know that Indiana Jones 5 is currently in the pipeline. Its a pretty impressive feat considering that it marks 40 years since Indiana Jones become an icon of the silver screen.
This week, Collider sat down with producer Frank Marshall (who has been around for all four Indy films) to find out a bit more about how the fifth instalment of the franchise is going.
Probably the biggest news regarding the sequel so far is that director of the first four Indy films, Steven Spielberg will not be returning for number 5. He originally agreed to return but the film was eventual handed to James Mangold who is best known for directing Logan. In the interview with Collider Marshall felt positive about Mangold’s role saying “ He’s a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time.”
Marshall also advised that Spielberg will continue to be involved in the progress. He said, “Steven is staying on as a producer, so we’ve got the best of everything.”
So how is the writing going for the project? Marshall advised that it has just started. With this information now out there, we here at MickeyBlog think it’s pretty safe to assume to production won’t start on the film anytime soon.
Marshall had this to say about shooting a film in the time of COVID-19:
“The number one thing, obviously, is the safety of everybody – the cast, the crew, and all of us. So, we’re looking at the guidelines that are coming slowly, from the health experts and the studios and the different parts of the business, and we’re just trying to incorporate everything, so we can move forward and be safe. It’s going to obviously slow things down, so we’re trying to adjust. You won’t see a lot of big crowd scenes, for example, for awhile. There won’t be any more craft service, so maybe that’ll be good for people, in keeping more fit. It’s a moving target right now. There are a lot of people working on the solutions, to be able to work and be safe.”
So as you can see it is still early days for the next Indy. However, this is a story that we’ll continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog. Readers are encouraged to keep checking in for further Indy updates!
