Check Out Another Inspiring Marathon Story from Cancer Survivor Heather Yang
Throughout our time at home during social distancing, we’ve been sharing with you a handful of incredibly moving stories about runDisney particpants who overcame seemingly insurmountable odds to compete in some of the theme parks races over the past year and tonight we have yet another profile in courage.
Heather Yang was preparing to compete in her first half marathon race at Walt Disney World two years ago (2018) when she was blindsided by a stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis. Rather than training for the marathon, Heather had to go through 5 months of chemotherapy. However, as a United States Army veteran and a first responder during the 9/11 attacks she was confident that this was a fight she could win.
Yang completed her chemotherapy treatment in early 2019 and celebrating being a cancer survivor meant getting back to one of the things she loved most – running. In January of 2020, after 8 months of training, Yang was able to fulfil her dream and compete in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon.
Disney captured the entire experience in a touching video. Follow along with Heather’s journey here:
