Welcome To The (Walt Disney) World Little Piglet
Here at MickeyBlog we love a good animal baby. That’s why we are so excited to let everyone know that Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating a new arrival!
The park welcomed a babirusa piglet! This little girl was named Kirana by the animal care team at animal care team which we’re told means “sunbeam” in Indonesian.
A babirusa piglet was born recently at Disney’s Animal Kingdom—a first for the park. Take a look at this sweet photo of Kirana, and read more about her on the blog. 🐗 https://t.co/7dlLbBLY5L #DisneyMagicMoments pic.twitter.com/6aukvQlXHl

The type of pig might look a bit unfamiliar. That’s because Babirusas are native to the swamps and rainforests of the Indonesian Islands. These pigs are known for their unusual snouts and tusks that can grow up to 17 inches.
Animal Kingdom is also home to other members of the pig hog family including the Warthogs you usually see on the Kiliminjaro Safaris and the KuneKune pigs found at the Affection Sections.
The birth is yet another success when it comes to Disney’s commitment to help animals. Kirana’s parents are named Betty and Mentari and they were chosen to breed through the Species Survival Plan (SSP.) This initiative is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and ensures responsible breeding for endangered species.
Not too long ago, we here at MickeyBlog also told you about the birth of a Hartmann’s Mountain zebra foal also born at Animal Kingdom as part of the SSP.
Over the last 15 years, Disney’s animal care team have partnered with reproductive biologists at the SSP to “crack the code” on breading a pair of babirusa pigs. Kirana’s arrival is a sunbeam as she is making an important contribution toward the conservation and understanding of her species.
The Disney Conservation Fund has supported projects in Africa for nearly 2 decades to protect animals that live in these habitats. So let’s celebrate this healthy little piglet who we are told is bonding with mom.
