Florida Governor Tells Theme Parks to Submit Reopening Plans; Relaxes Some Social Distancing Guidelines
That light at the end of the tunnel keeps getting closer and closer it seems. Yesterday, we reported that Walt Disney World and Cast Member Unions came to terms on agreement that will offer medical and financial security allowing Cast Members to return to work.
Today, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, just announced that theme parks are welcome to submit their reopening plans.
Per DeSantis, theme park’s reopening plans should include an estimate park reopening date, new safety measures and protocols, how they will accommodate guests, and protect their staff. An endorsement would also need to be required by their local official. For most of Walt Disney World, this would mean an endorsement signed by Orange County Mayor, Jerry Demings.

In addition, DeSantis also announced that the state of Florida will fully be in Phase 1 of the state’s reopening beginning on Monday, May 18. This means that restaurants and retail stores can now operate at 50% capacity. They have currently been able to operate only at 25% capacity.
Allowing restaurants and retail stores to operate at 50% capacity will come into play when Disney Springs begin its phased reopening on Wednesday, May 20.
I don’t know about you, but I am for sure excited about this latest development. It seems that with each day that passes we get one day closer to a Walt Disney World reopening.
The governor’s latest statement about theme parks submitting their reopening plans is one big step in the right direction.
