Man Recreates Disney Theme Park In His Living Room Using LEGO
Trust us. If we here at MickeyBlog had an endless resource of LEGOs we’d be following the lead of this Texas dad and create the “Happiest Place on Earth” in our living room!
John Daugherty was featured in a piece on Good Morning America today for bringing a bit of Disney magic to his family while staying at home! Daugherty apparently started his collection back in 2017 when Cinderella Castle first came out and his collection has been growing since then. Daughtery recalled the moment to GMA saying, “That was when I decided I’d make my own Disneyland.” Daugherty added. “All those sets could be put together and make a miniature version of the park.”
Let’s take a closer look at some of his awesome creations:
Daugherty estimates that he has spent over 300 hours building 25 different LEGO sets to help bring the theme park to life. He’s even got it right down to the details including Mickey, Tinker Bell and more!
But his creativity doesn’t stop there. He built a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed ship, various coasters and below you can even see the Walt Disney World Railroad chugging past Main Street Station. All aboard!:

“It’s kind of like my therapy, just a fun thing to do,” Daugherty told GMA. “It’s very zen.”
Next is the obvious question, what does his wife think of his ever-growing hobby? Daugherty said, “She tolerates my hobby.” He laughed adding, “Thought if there was a time to bring it all out, it was during a quarantine.”
You can see Daughtery at Disneyland below where he says he hopes to return with his family once everything reopens.
Though the theme parks are still closed there has been some positive steps forward this week. Shanghai Disney opened yesterday after putting into place new social distancing and sanitation procedures and Walt Disney World will be opening up their downtown shopping and dining district Disney Springs on May 20th.
