Disney+ On Target To Have 202 Million Subscribers By 2025
Though the future is still looking slightly uncertain when it comes to the Walt Disney Company’s theme parks, it would appear that Disney’s streaming network – Disney+ is on target to become even more of an industry juggernaut.
According to a recent forecast by UK firm, Digital TV Research, DIsney+ is on target to have over 202 million global subscribers by 2025. It should also be noted that this is up from Digitial TV Research’s previous assessment of 126 million and higher than The Walt Disney Company’s goal of 60 Million to 90 million by 2024.
“We have completely revised our forecasts for 138 countries in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research. “A major impact of lockdown has been a steep rise in SVOD subscriptions.”
So where does this put Disney+ when compared to other streaming networks? Digital TV predicts that Netflix will still lead the pack with 258 million subscribers, HBO Max at 25 million and Apple TV+ at 14 million. Though Disney+ lags slightly behind Netflix, the fact that it is a relative newcomer having just launched last year attests to its rapid rise in the industry.

Last week, Disney announced during their quarterly earnings report that they had reached 54.5 million subscribers as of May 4th. The service first launched in the States on November 12 and didn’t go live in the UK and Europe until earlier this year.
We think it’s only up for Disney+ who has a number of awesome shows in the pipeline. This includes the upcoming season of The Mandalorian and a slew of Marvel programs including Falcon and the WinterSoldier, Loki, WandaVision, She-Hulk and more! Artemis Fowl is also set to debut on the streaming network next month (June 12). The film is the first Disney title that was orginally intended for cinemas but was moved to a streaming release after theaters worldwide were shuttered.
