Disney Confirms Shanghai Disneyland Will Reopen This Month With New Protocols
I am so excited to pass along that we can officially confirm that a Disney Park will reopen this month! Disney just announced that Shanghai Disney will be welcoming Guests again as of May 11, 2020!
As we were prepared for, there will be some new protocols in place when Shanghai Disneyland reopens to keep all Guests and Cast Members safe and healthy. Some of these protocols include:
- Limited attendance with reacquired advanced ticketing reservations
- Socially distancing in queues, restaurants, ride vehicles, and other facilities throughout the Park
- Increased frequency of sanitizing and disinfection
- Masks and temperature screens will be required
- Contact tracing will be implemented
When Shanghai Disneyland reopens, most attractions, rides, some shows, and shopping and dining locations will resume operations – with controlled attendance. Some experiences such as play areas and theater shows will remain closed.

When Shanghai Disneyland first reopens, parades and nighttime spectaculars will not be offered during the initial reopening phase. However, a special Disney character procession, Mickey and Friends Express, will be offered several times a day. In the evening, the Enchanted Storybook Castle will come to life with light and music with Evening Magical Moments. Everyone’s favorite Disney characters will make appearances in a new way as the visit all the lands to greet and welcome everyone back to the Park. During the initial phase, one-on-one interaction with characters and close-up photos will not be permitted.
I know it won’t be exactly the same experience at first, but I am stoked about the reopening of Shanghai Disneyland! I am hopeful we will learn more about when Walt Disney World and Disneyland will reopen in the near future!
