Taika Waititi Will Direct and Co-Write New ‘Star Wars’ Movie + New Disney+ Series Announced
If you didn’t know, May the 4th is a big day for Star Wars fans. Known at “May the 4th Be With You,” it’s a day fans around the world unite to celebrate everything about the iconic franchise. Well, today got even more exciting as it was just confirmed that Academy Award Winner, Taika Waititi, will direct and co-write the next Star Wars movie.

Taika Waititi was recently just awarded the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. He also directed the final episode for Season 1 of the critically-acclaimed The Mandalorian on Disney+.
Joining Taika Waititi on the screenplay for the next feature Star Wars movie will be Academy Award nominee, Krysty Wilson-Carina. In addition to the Academy Award nomination, Wilson-Carina also received a BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film of the Year on the three-time Oscar willing film, 1917. She also worked on the film Last Night in Soho.

Bu, that’s not all! After the mega success of The Mandalorian on Disney+, a new Star Wars series has been announced for the streaming platform. Emmy-nominated write Lesyle Headland, who is known for her work on Russian Doll and Bachelorette, will be writing, producing, and serve as the show runner for the new project.

No additional information has been released for the new Star Wars movie and series at this time.
